So what is accounting and what do accountants do exactly? As well as being able to organise the above factors, accountants in business also must be able to correctly read and interpret what these records mean in order to communicate them widely.Any job description for an accounting position will dictate complete compliance with all government regulations and accounting principles. In many cases, these individuals are called upon on a consultancy basis to give professional and valid financial advice to company leaders individual clients, so it is vital that they offer unbiased, accurate information.Bookkeepers play an important role in preparing tax returns for companies or individual clients, with the time during which they are preparing tax returns quite demanding (tax returns are usually due for submission by 31st January). In most cases, however, CPAs work on a full-time, 9 until 5, basis. What Does It Take To Work In The Industry? While jo b requirements and descriptions may be tailored to a particular role looking to be filled, there are general characteristics and responsibilities all CPAs share.Professional accountants must have very high attention to detail, for example, and understandably be great with numbers. They also must understand and put into practice the accounting principles and accounting procedures in order to remain legally compliant (to protect themselves and their client from any unlawful activity), i.e. they will have a responsibility to prevent fraud or theft, and maintain accurate financial information for their employer or clients. With technological changes that are taking off in many corporations, anyone wishing to work in an accounts team must have good technical skills and be able to manage a number of accounting programs and pieces of software (not just Excel spreadsheets), particularly major accounting software such as QuickBooks or Sage.Accounting professionals must take an ethical approac h, abiding by the rules that govern the industry. Photo on Visual huntThe Golden Rules Of AccountingAs you'd expect with a field that is determined by accounting procedures, there are some rules that every accounting professional must follow when performing their tasks and duties. But while they may appear simple, they aren't always as straightforward as accountants and their clients would like. The golden rules have been listed below:The Three Golden RulesTaken from Management Study Guide.Debit The Receiver, Credit The Giver This principle is used in the case of personal accounts. When a person gives something to the organization, it becomes an inflow and therefore the person must be credit in the books of accounts. The converse of this is also true, which is why the receiver needs to be debited.Debit What Comes In, Credit What Goes Out This principle is applied in the case of real accounts. Real accounts involve machinery, land and building etc. They have a debit balance by default . Thus when you debit what comes in, you are adding to the existing account balance. This is exactly what needs to be done. Similarly, when you credit what goes out, you are reducing the account balance when a tangible asset goes out of the organization.Debit All Expenses And Losses, Credit All Incomes And Gains This rule is applied when the account in question is a nominal account. The capital of the company is a liability. Therefore it has a default credit balance. When you credit all incomes and gains, you increase the capital and by debiting expenses and losses, you decrease the capital. This is exactly what needs to be done for the system to stay in balance.Accountants, particularly those concerned with bookkeeping, must be aware of the golden rules of accounting. Photo credit: HloomHloom on VisualHunt.comThe golden rules of accounting allow anyone to be a bookkeeper, so long as they understand the types of accounts and then diligently apply the rules. For instance, if they are confident that their figures are correct, self-employed individuals can do their own bookkeeping if they so wish, either submitting the details to HMRC themselves or paying an accountant to prepare the return and submit it.The system of debit and credit is a fundamental rule of bookkeeping. It is very useful, however, it is also quite impractical to use in reality. It is, for this reason, that a qualified employee may be required to offer advice on people's accounts, especially if they have a lot of income or expenditure, or both, or if they have multiple sources of income.Because many small to medium businesses employ junior level clerical staff to keep their many admin databases running, the golden rules of accounting were devised to assist these low-level teams and ensure that records were kept up to date for accountants to employ or refer back to when carrying out important financial tasks for management.More On The Principles Of AccountingFor those studying the principles of a ccounting or who are interested to know more about the terms used within the financial industry, below are some keywords and useful phrases to be aware of.Monetary UnitIn accounting, values all need to be recorded in terms of a single monetary unit or currency, i.e pounds and pence. One financial record should not contain a mixture of different currencies, all units should be converted into the same monetary unit for the purpose of understanding and analysing the file or document. Assigning values or symbols to goods and items is also a problem since it is subjective. The monetary unit principle adopted by accountants also assumes that the value of the unit of currency in which you record transactions remains reasonably stable over time.Principle Of ConservatismAccountants are said to be very conservative, i.e. they are sensible and prepared for the worst. Whether or not they want to hope for the best, they will never give false hope to their clients and will always display informatio n as it is. This is as per the rules that have been created for their profession. The principle of conservatism dictates that when there is doubt about any given figure, the organisation in question must state the lowest possible revenue and the highest possible costs to cover themselves. Such conservatism is the best plan of action for the company as it helps the management be better prepared for any forthcoming financial crises. When in doubt, accountants are taught to present the worst case scenario to avoid a financial crisis. Photo on VisualHuntTake accounting lessons with a private tutor on Superprof.Cost PrincipleClosely related to the above, the cost principle advocates that companies should list everything on the financial statements at the cost price, despite the fact they may appreciate in price. Assets like land and building, gold, etc are the most common but this increase in value cannot be reflected on the financial statements of the company until this appreciation is co mplete and realized.Accountants are of the belief that the market value of anything is just an opinion, and they cannot work on the basis of opinions because there are many of them and everyone's opinions differ. The sold price of something can be taken as fact since someone has already paid for it at that figure. Hence accounting works on cost principle and therefore on facts only, not opinions.Full disclosure principleThis is yet another one of the concepts making up the suite of accounting principles, and which states that you should include in or alongside the financial records and statements of a business all of the information that may impact a reader's understanding. This means that anyone looking at the records can get the full picture.Time period principleThis concept may be the most obvious but it is also highly important. It states that a business should report the results of its operations over a standard period of time, in order to create a standard set of comparable pe riods, which is useful for analysing trends in the data.Of course, there are many, many more principles that make up the accounting handbook, or suite of accounting principles. You can find out more by visiting the website named Accounting Tools.Find out about the principal accounting institutes here.

In this case, you can start your training as soon as you finish your GCSEs. Once youâve finished obligatory schooling, you can start training to become a chef. You can also do cooking classes or learn how to bake. (Source: ponce_photography)There are a few different choices. The culinary arts are varied and almost all kitchen staff will have some form of culinary training at different levels. Your first chef job will probably be that of a commis chef (or line cook) and you'll need some basic culinary skills.Level 3 qualifications are the equivalent of A Levels and include access to higher education diploma, advanced apprenticeship, international baccalaureate diploma, and the level 3 award, certificate, diploma, ESOL, national certificate, national diploma, or NVQ.For example, in terms of cooking qualifications, you can study Hospitality and Catering - Level 3, choosing either a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Professional Cookery (Preparation and Cooking), a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Professional Cookery, or a Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Professional Cookery (Patisserie and Confectionery). These courses are offered at places such as the University of West London, St. Helens College, and Northern Regional College, for example.Level 4 Cooking QualificationsLevel 4 qualifications include the certificate of higher education (CertHE), higher apprenticeship, higher national certificate (HNC), and the level 4 award, certificate, diploma, or NVQ.At this level, you could study the Level 4 Diploma in Professional Culinary Arts offered by the Confederation of Tourism Hospitality in partnership with Gordon Ramsay's Tante Marie Culinary Academy, one of the best culinary schools in the UK. At the time of writing, there are several culinary schools offering degrees in cooking or culinary arts.If you'd like to study BA in Culinary Arts Management, Professional Culinary Management, Professional Culinary Arts, or Food and Professional Cookery, you can study at either the Centre for Contemporary Hospitality and Tourism in Derby, the London Geller College of Hospitality and Tourism, or Ulster University.Level 7 Cooking QualificationsBy Level 7, we're looking at master's degrees and its equivalents such as the postgraduate certificate, the postgraduate certificate in education (PGCE), postgraduate diploma, and the level 7 award, certificate, diploma, or NVQ.By this level, there's very little available for those wanting to cook and the courses start to get very academic. Options include an MA in Anthropology of Food at SOAS University of London or an MA in Culinary Arts Management at University College Birmingham. To be fair, you'll probably already be workin g as a chef before you even get to study a level 7 qualification.Choosing the Right Route to Become a ChefWith all these different qualifications, it can be difficult making the right decision. Some jobs provide training whereas you'll need to train as a chef before you can get the job. (Source: skeeze)You need to choose by considering what courses are available near you. Keep in mind that some teachers and parents arenât comfortable letting their children move towards more vocational fields. However, if youâre motivated, youâll need to convince them. Choose somewhere near home and choose a course that lines up with your ambition. What kind of cooking do you want to do? Do you want to just work in a kitchen or manage your own restaurant? These questions will help you decide on what to do. You can always change your mind as you go. If youâre changing careers, talk it through with your family and friends. Make sure youâve got a clear goal in mind. If you want to become a chef, you need to be passionate about food. (Source: Daria-Yakovleva)Attending a culinary school or culinary institute isn't a guarantee that you'll become the head chef of a famous restaurant, but it will ensure that you know more about restaurant management, pastry arts, menu planning, knife skills, food preparation, etc., and have the skills and knowledge to work in a commercial kitchen. While not every professional studied a culinary arts degree or attended culinary arts schools, most culinary careers start with job training and study. Of course, if you prefer to learn by doing, you might consider doing an apprenticeship and gaining practical experience with on-the-job chef training. If you need to learn more about cooking, consider getting private tuition from one of the talented tutors on Superprof. There are many cooking tutors on the platform and there are three main types of tutorial available: face-to-face tutorials, online tutorials, and group tutoria ls.Group tutorials include a single tutor and several students. While this dynamic means you won't get as much attention from your private tutor, you can save money by sharing the cost of your tutor's time with other students.Face-to-face tutorials are just between you and the tutor and are tailored to the student. They tend to cost more because they're a bespoke service but they're also hugely cost-effective. However, for hands-on subjects like cooking, these may be your best bet to learn more about the field. After all, your tutor can adapt each lesson to particular skills that you need to know. Finally, online tutorials are taught via webcam. With no travel costs and the ability to schedule more tutorials per week, the tutor can charge a more competitive rate for their tutorials. While this type of tutorial isn't usually recommended for non-academic subjects, if you've ever watched a cooking show or a YouTube video on how to cook, you'll know that you don't necessarily need someon e in the room there with you to help you learn how to cook something!Don't forget that a lot of the tutors on Superprof also offer the first hour of tuition for free!

Rather than steel guitar strings or nylon string, these strings were must probably made with the gut of an animal. There was no electric or blues guitar back then!In the 10th century, the guitar was exported to Spain, where it witnessed various transformations over the course of the following centuries: classic guitar, folk guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitar. In Spain, they started with flamenco - and other genres we now fairly ignorantly lump into the category 'Spanish guitar'.Through the years, the technology behind learning guitar has become more and more advanced - with the luthier, or guitar makers, able to make the instrument louder, to enhance its playability, and to able to rely on new things such as amplifiers and microphones. The body shape changed too, as the instrument used to much smaller. Now we have many shapes, from the dreadnought to the archtop to the twelve string guitar. The guitar is a member of the plucked s tring instrument category, as itâs possible to play several sounds at the same time. This is all part of an introductory music theory lesson! The origins of the guitar. Photo from The Guitar and Mandolin: biographies of celebrated players and composers for these instruments (1914) courtesy of Visual Hunt. From the time it appeared, the guitar was considered to be a popular instrument that unified the population through widely-known songs, transcending someone's place of birth and social class. That's because it was fairly cheap to make - and it was used in all sorts of different styles, from traditional folk to baroque. With its ability to adapt to all musical genres, the guitar can accompany several instruments as well as get played solo in a range of styles such as rock, blues, jazz, country, classical or reggae. In no time in guitar history has the instrument been so popular and so widely used!Guitar Styles: Learn How to Play Them. Each musical style possesses its own codes and ch aracteristics, which is why playing rock, blues or funk is so recognizable, regardless of whether or not one has an ear for music. The main musical genres for the electric guitar are rockânâroll, rock, blues, jazz, heavy metal, funk, pop, reggae and country, say - whilst acoustic instruments can play everything from accompanying violins in folk to baroque guitar.Different styles require both different techniques - using a plectrum or your fingers, a strong vibrato or the use of a whammy bar - and different sounds and instruments. For funk, you might want an instrument or guitar amplifier that gives your sound a good treble, whilst for metal you'll want a much different timbre. The history of the guitar spans from 3000 years ago to the present day!To learn to play all of these styles, you will have to work and develop your fingers and develop your calluses: this is the efficient way to gain speed, flexibility, coordination and strength.Learn the fundamentals that correspond to each of these musical styles: the main rhythms, how to strum strings with the right hand, different techniques for the left hand, and the common chords. And of course memorize and master the various parts of the guitar, such as the fretboard and pickups, first! Watching guitar videos will be of huge help.Beginner guitar players should also pick up a tuner, capo and metronome. Now get practicing on those basic chords and riffs, and learn a song! The 10 Best Guitarists on the Planet There are musicians and songwriters who have literally transformed the landscape of guitars and music, and who are icons of specific musical styles.Listing the 10 best guitarists on the planet is no easy task, as it varies according to our individual tastes in music and favorite musical genre. Obviously.Yet, finding and studying some inspirations is a great way to take learning the instrument out of the banality of all this information about different types of guitar case, tuners, or the pickguard. Division with remainders tutors
Division with remainders tutors The basic mathematical operations in math are addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Division is one of the arithmetic operations used in different branches of mathematics. Division is denoted by a cross sign . The number which is divided is called as the dividend. The number with which the dividend is divided is called the divisor. Using the dividend and the divisor the quotient and the remainder is further determined. Long division is a useful method in division. In other words when we divide something there is sometime something left over and It is called the remainder. Example 1: There are 85 chocolates in a box. How many chocolates will each kid receive if they were to be divided equally between 6 children? Solution: Total number of chocolates in a box = 85. Number of children = 6. Number of chocolates per kid = Total chocolates / Number of children. Therefore, each of them will receive= 85 / 6 = 85 6. Remainder = 1; Quotient = 14. Hence, each of them will be receive 14 chocolates. Question: Multiple choice question (Pick the correct option.) What is the remainder when 726 is divided by 7? a) 3 b) 4 c) 5 d) None of these. Correct answer: option c. The first digit is equal to 7. Start with the first digit. Divide the hundreds. Use 7 x 1 = 7. Subtract 7 7 = 0. Now bring the tens place down. Divide the tens. Use 7 x 0 = 0. Subtract 2 0 = 2. Now bring down the ones place. Divide the ones. Use 7 x 3 = 21. Subtract 26 21 = 5. Hence remainder = 5.
LSAT Tip of the Week Analytical Reasoning Practice Problem #1
LSAT Tip of the Week Analytical Reasoning Practice Problem #1 LSAT Law School Blog This week, we will focus on an example of how to setup an analytical reasoning (logic games) question. Our practice question will be from the June 2007 LSAT. This is Section 1, Question 1: A company employee generates a series of five-digit product codes in accordance with the following rules: The codes use the digits 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4, and no others. Each digit occurs exactly once in any code. The second digit has a value exactly twice that of the first digit. The value of the third digit is less than the value of the fifth digit. Rule 1 - First, we will diagram this question by pulling out each rule we are given. The first one states that it is a five-digit code, so we will make 5 blank spaces. __ __ __ __ __ Rule 2 - Next, we are told that these digits only use the digits 0-4 and no others. 0 1 2 3 4 Rule 3 - Then we are told each digit occurs only one time. 0 1 2 3 4 1 1 1 1 1 Rule 4 - The next rule is that the second digit has a value exactly twice that of the first digit, so: x 2x _ _ _ : From this rule we can infer that there are only two possibilities once this rule is considered, either: 1 2 _ _ _ OR 2 4 _ _ _ Rule 5 - Our final rule is that the value of the third digit is less than the value of the fifth digit. From this we infer that the number â4â cannot be in space 3 and the number â0â cannot be in space 5. Once you diagram it always is smart to make a few scenario possibilities with all the rules taken into account. So, we have: #1: 1 2 0/3 _ 3/4 â" This is compiling all the rules since we know the second number has to be twice the first, which works here with 1 2. It also takes into account that the third digit fifth digit â" and we only have the numbers 0, 3, and 4 left so this means that spots 3 and 5 will either be 0 3, 0 4, or 3 4. #2: 2 4 0/1 _ 1/3 â" Again, we are compiling all the rules since we know second number is twice the first, which works with 2 4. It also takes into account that third digit fifth digit â" and we only have the numbers 0, 1, and 3 left. So, this means that spots 3 and 5 will either be 0 1, 0 3, or 1 3. With the rules down and the two scenarios already figured out, you will probably be able to already answer a question or two. Letâs try the first one together just to see how we will implement what we have diagrammed. Question 1: If the last digit of an acceptable product code is 1, it must be true that the (A) first digit is 2 (B) second digit is 0 (C) third digit is 3 (D) fourth digit is 4 (E) fourth digit is 0 This is a âmust be trueâ question and we must implement all of our previously stated rules in addition to the new one we are given, that the last digit has to be 1. Since we diagrammed and made example scenarios, this will be a piece of cake. We will use Scenario #2 here: #2: 2 4 0/1 _ 1/3 Our new rule is that digit 5 must be 1, so: 2 4 0/1 _ 1 Since each digit can only be used once (Rule # 3), we know that the third digit will have to be 0, and the only digit left for digit 4 is a 3- so we have our final code: 2 4 0 3 1. Now answering the question will be simple, we will just run through each answer choice and see which was holds to be true with the code we have created. Option (a) states that the first digit is 2, which is correct! While you're working hard and studying practice questions, make sure you take some time to read up on current events in the law school world.
What PSAT Scores Can Tell You in Preparing for the SAT
What PSAT Scores Can Tell You in Preparing for the SAT What PSAT Scores Can Tell You in Preparing for the SAT College is just around the corner and your exam preparation is vital to ensure your best SAT and PSAT scores. Your scores will help boost your college admission portfolio and indicate your readiness for college success. Performing well on the PSAT is also an indicator of success on the SAT. Research by the College Board, the organization that administers both the SAT and PSAT, indicates the importance of a student's PSAT scores. Importance of the PSAT Many view the PSAT as simply a preparation for the SAT, but it is also quite important on its own. High school students typically sit for the PSAT exam one year before taking the SAT. PSAT scores are available shortly after the test is completed allowing you the time to examine the score reports and determine which parts of the SAT will require the most preparation. Although the PSAT isn't normally used by colleges to determine admission, the scores are often utilized in student recruitment. Colleges contact prospective students who scored well on the PSAT and encourage them to consider their programs for future studies. The PSAT is also used as a determinant for honors awarded by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. Preparing for the PSAT Your preparation for the PSAT exam should be comprehensive and allow plenty of time for practice and review. As you are beginning your preparation consider: Taking practice tests The College Board provides practice tests online that students can take as part of their preparation. We suggest taking one before you begin studying to assess your readiness and which areas of the exam are the most difficult for you. You can take additional practice tests throughout your preparation to monitor your progress and determine areas of continued need. Planning your preparation Cramming rarely works and inconsistent preparation may not help you be fully ready for exam day. Instead, take the time to schedule your work sessions and plan your studying. Make a master schedule of your study plans leading up to exam day and then find blocks of time each week to devote to your preparation. Work hard to stick to this schedule to ensure you are ready. Studying the exam's format, directions, and types of questions Preparing forthe content of the exam is not enough. You also need to familiarize yourself with the PSAT's directions, types of questions, and the format of the exam. Read through all test information to also learn the exam day schedule and determine what items are restricted in the testing center. Working with the experts Sometimes your best preparation can benefit from the expertise of a professional tutor. 5 Things Every Rising Senior Should Do This Summer
5 Things Every Rising Senior Should Do This Summer 5 Things Every Rising Senior Should Do This Summer College juniors are excited that the academic year is finally coming to an end. In many ways, college is almost over but there is still a lot to do before graduation. Additionally, once college is officially over students will need to start looking for jobs and adjust to a professional lifestyle. There are some things students can do the summer between their junior and senior year to make the last year of college and the graduation process run smoothly. Unfortunately, students who dont keep track of graduation requirements and other relevant details may end up being a fifth-year senior at the last minute. Its better to stay on top of things and plan ahead to have a great final year as a full-time student. 1. Look through transcripts The first thing rising seniors should do is look through their transcript. Many students find out they are just one or two courses short of graduation, which can prevent them from getting their diploma the following spring. If a student made a miscalculation earlier on, theres still time to make it right before the start of senior year. One option is to take some elective courses over the summer to get extra units. Another option is to take a heavier load of courses starting in the fall. Most universities have a range of what is considered âfull time.â It might be better to take five classes instead of four and still graduate on time. If students are at all confused about this process, they are encouraged to speak with one of the academic advisors who can look through everything and make sure the student is on the right track. 2. Arrange work experience Rising seniors are also encouraged to arrange some relevant work experience over the summer. This may consist of an internship or a paid position. Either way, its a good idea to have something productive listed on a resume the summer before graduation. Students who are overwhelmed with what they have already completed throughout the academic year and would rather just relax should know that many internships are only one or two weeks long but still add to a students resume. Its important to have real life on-the-job experience as well as something impressive to put on paper. 3. Volunteer Another great way to beef up that student resume over the summer is to volunteer. Sometimes, jobs within a professional field are simply unavailable to students who have not yet graduated. However, there is almost always a need for a volunteer. This is different from an internship in that students can set a more flexible schedule. For example, if an internship is from 8 to 5 Monday through Friday, thats when the intern works. Volunteers, however, can say that theyre available Thursdays and Fridays from 2 to 6 p.m., for example. This is a great option for students who need to attend summer classes or need to have a part-time job to make ends meet (READ: 5 Ways to Survive Spring Semester as a Senior). 4. Meet with professors and TAs Its a fabulous idea for students to meet with their professors or teaching assistants over the summer or as the term is wrapping up. This doesnt have to be a formal meeting in the professors office; it can be a simple meeting over a cup of coffee on campus. Professors and TAs can be a great resource when it comes to planning an entry-level career search or looking for an internship. Most of them have great connections and knowledge that other people simply dont possess. Also, meeting with professors gives students an opportunity to ask any additional questions. If nothing else this meeting will let the professor know the student is genuinely interested in their major field of study and will maintain a professional connection for the future (READ: 3 Warning Signs of Senioritis). 5. Arrange and informational interview Another great thing for rising seniors to do over the summer is arrange an informational interview with somebody in the field they plan to go into. This should not be confused with an official job interview. An informational interview is simply asking someone who is already a seasoned professional to provide some mentoring or advice. This gives students the opportunity to put questions without the pressure of having a full-time job on the line. Summer is the perfect time to catch-up and get ahead on your schooling.
